Let me set the scene for you:
After repeatedly hitting the snooze button, you look up at your alarm clock and regrettably realise that it is now a quarter past eight – panic strikes-  you have just short of twenty minutes to be out of the house and dash to work. It is a rush against time! How will you manage to chow down your breakfast, shower and make yourself look somewhat presentable for your date later that evening with that fine-looking hunk from the gym? Will you be able to achieve the impossible?

Below is a list of tried and tested beauty hacks that are simply genius and have made a huge difference in speeding up my beauty regime. Ranging from hair to makeup, this list of shortcuts that I have put together will save you time, effort, but most importantly, your sanity!

1. Prep your hair the night before
Before heading to bed, spritz your hair with a texturizing spray and work it in using your hands, from top to bottom. Weave your hair into two tight braids (or four if you want more defined kinks), and sleep on it.
The following morning, undo the braids and run your fingers through the hair. For added volume, mist sea-salt spray and scrunch your hair. The final result will be beautiful, beachy, boho waves – very Vanessa Hudgens!

2. Eye makeup
When you have little time to play around with your makeup, mascara can act as double duty. Using an eyeliner brush, sweep it against a mascara wand and line your upper lash-line for a gorgeous, natural looking smokey eye.

3.  Dry your nail-polish faster
When you have done a quick paint job but have no time to sit around and wait for the nails to dry, fill a basin with icy cold water, and soak your nails for approximately two minutes to help set the polish and dry the nails faster.

4. Dry Shampoo
Dry Shampoo is an absolute life saver when you need to control a greasy mane.
Divide your hair into small sections and spray the dry shampoo directly onto your roots, and massage it in using your fingertips. The oil will vanish before your eyes almost like magic! Alternatively, baby powder is just as efficient but be cautious not to leave any white powdery traces – specially if you have dark hair.

5. Help, no time to apply falsies!
Using a cotton swab, dab some translucent powder or baby powder over your eyelashes, in between mascara applications – powder, mascara, powder, mascara. This will make your lashes appear much longer and thicker - you may even scrap the falsies all together!

Effortless Boho braid

From my daily obsessive Pinterest browsing, I tend to come across the most beautiful and striking hairstyles. My hair mood board is filled with romantic, chic, feminine hairstyles that I enviously admire but have little courage to attempt myself. I suspect that behind each picture there is a team of expert hairstylist because, surely, the average girl would not be able to achieve a hairstyle of such splendour with basic tools and high-street products! Am I right, or am I right?

Through all the gasp’s and aww’s of admiration, I eventually stumbled across a picture that looked easy enough to execute – even for myself. Three simple steps, and roughly five minutes of fiddling around, that’s all it took!

Although the pictures are pretty self explanatory, you too can achieve this hairstyle by following these simple steps:

1. Use a comb, or even your fingers, and separate your hair into sections. Don’t worry about the part not being straight or having a few fly offs, the beauty of this hairstyle is that it doesn’t need to be neat.

2. Weave two braids and secure both ends with a hair tie to hold them in place.

3. Join both plaits together, and secure them with a couple of bobby pins. I used five in total but if you have extra thick or long hair, I would suggest perhaps using a few extra. Fasten the end of both plaits into one with a hair tie.

Easy peasy! Please note that I used my Glaimi Halo Hair extensions to give my hair that extra oomph and volume – direct link HERE.
Waddya think? Yay or Nay?

10 Lifestyle changes for a healthier life

While it’s a fact that I am abit of a sloth, I still make sure to set aside enough time during the day to take care of my body. Make these habits a part of your daily ritual, and see your health sore:

1.  Do 20 sit-ups and 20 push-ups every morning.
While this by no means will help you achieve a ripped Adonis-like six-pack (unless you have super active mutant genes), there are nevertheless some powerful perks that you will instantly experience with this quick workout. Not only will it help relieve morning drowsiness by making you feel more energised and elevated, it will also increase body circulation and raise the metabolic rate of the body, aiding with weight loss.

2. Slather on sunscreen every single day.
This is a biggie, if you are not doing this already, start now! Regardless if it’s cloudy, rainy or even a friggin’ thunderstorm outside, make sure you wear sunscreen each day - SPF20, minimum. But if you personally prefer the wrinkly prune look, who am I to judge.

3. Drink an antioxidant filled smoothie for breakfast each morning.
One of my best purchases ever has been the Breville Blend-Active. What originally attracted me to buying it was the convenience of being able to make a smoothie within minutes, and being able to dash out of the house with the cup. The Breville Blend-Active is essentially the Ferrari of the blender world; it blends all the ingredients in so seamlessly, that you end up with the creamiest of smoothies. Pinterest is inundated with smoothie recipes if you are stuck on what ingredients to combine.

4. Get some sun light.
Vitamin D is important for the body to be able to absorb calcium and strengthen bones. Just opening the window and letting some natural light flood into the room will make all the difference in the world. Even better, get out of the house and go for a ten minute walk each day.

5. Eat a handful of nuts everyday.
They are powerful little things! Nuts are jam-packed with protein, fibre and essential fats, making them the ideal vitality-boosting snack. Replace the crisps and chocolates for this tasty, nutritious alternative.

6. Drink lemon water every morning.
As soon as you wake up, head straight to the kitchen and prepare yourself a glass of hot water with lemon juice squeezed in. This will help cleanse the body from toxins, increases metabolism, freshens breath (although I would still recommend brushing your teeth afterwards), boosts your immune system and resets the body’s PH balance. Plus, think about all that Vitamin C goodness!

7. Dry body brushing before showering.
With an exfoliating glove or brush, start from the neck and work your way down to the feet, polishing the skin in a gentle circular motion. This can be done within a couple of minutes prior to jumping in to the shower. Dry body brushing helps promote circulation, aids lymphatic drainage, and removes dead skin cells, helping to maintain silky smooth skin all year around.

8. Oil pulling for oral hygiene.
Oil pulling is a renowned dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of extra virgin organic coconut oil in the mouth on an empty stomach, for approximately 20minutes. With the mouth being home to millions of bacteria, this action acts as a cleanser, pulling out all toxins before they get a chance to penetrate the body. This technique not only benefits the body, but also improves oral health by cleaning and brightening the teeth, keeping them pearly white.

9. Take fish oil capsules
Taking one fish oil capsule per day has numerous health benefits including reduced blood pressure and reduced inflammation. It also boosts the immune system, is rich in omega 3 and fatty acids, and improves skin-cell health.

10.   Start a detox tea programme.
I have recently started the Teami 30 Day Detox programme to help flush out toxins from the body. The pack comes with a supply of Skinny loose-leaf tea and 15 colon cleanse tea bags to be used in alternating days. Filled with powerful antioxidants, this teatox pack helps boost metabolism, increases energy levels, reduces bloating, improves the skin complexion and helps aid digestive issues.

I start the day with the Skinny tea (after drinking the lemon water first thing), and keep topping up the same tea bag with hot water throughout the day. Every other night I will finish the day with the colon cleanse tea bag, and the next day I will feel invigorated.

If you would like to give the Teami 30 Day Detox programme a go (or any other product of their range), save yourself some pennies by using my 10% discount code "ANASOFIA" at the checkout.
